Kickboxing... Have I told you how much I love kickboxing?! I have had such a great time with my classes and I love seeing the difference in my body. It's an amazing workout! But I have been side lined until the first of the year. Long story short - I have a Hernia in my upper abdomen. The pain from the hernia has been getting better but I have been feeling nauseous after I eat anything and I get really bad stomach cramps. So to rule out a problem with my Gallbladder, I'm going in for a Nuclear medicine scan - sounds scary but they promise it's painless. I guess they will inject a "radioactive tracer substance" in my arm and then with a special camera they can monitor how my Gallbladder is functioning. So, I will be doing that later this week - hey, maybe with the radioactive substance I will have a super human reaction and turn into Super Woman!
To fix the hernia, I will be going in for surgery in December. It should just be about an hour surgery and I should be able to go home after. I have to admit I'm a little nervous thinking about this, even though I am not a stranger to surgery. I've been under the knife 4 times in the last 15 years, 2 of those times were c-sections so at least I had something to look forward to! What I'm mostly nervous about is that 3 of the 4 times I've not come out of anesthesia without having problems and I don't handle pain well, so I'm a little nervous about the pain afterwards- but I'll just stay well drugged and be fine!
The girls are doing great! They are doing fabulous with school - we just had their parent teacher conferences and both kids received glowing reports! Caitlin got a G+ which means a B+ on one subject and she was very upset! She wanted all E's (A) so this was a downer for her. We've told her over and over again how proud we are of her and it's okay to get a G but I love that she is eager to bring that G to an E by the end of this quarter. Mikayla had one comment made that made us laugh. Her teacher said that "she had a song in her heart that is eager to get out". Meaning she sings all the time and needs to learn when to stop and do her work! Kaylie loves to make up her own songs and she has the cutest country twang!
Mike is doing great in school and really enjoys his research job at the University. Unfortunately, the research job doesn't pay enough and so Mike is looking for a new full time job. He is disappointed in that he can't continue school full time but is still eager to go part time and get done. I really hate having money issues and I hate that the housing market is so bad and we can't sell our house for what we owe. UGH! I so need to win the lottery!
Lately a lot of my time was focused on a fundraiser we had at the Woman of Steel Gallery at the beginning on the month. The fundraiser was to support an American Bald Eagle named Beauty that is being cared for by the Birds of Prey Northwest. http://www.birdsofpreynorthwest.org/ We had 7 raptors at the gallery - a Bald Eagle, Red Tail Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Owl and 3 other amazing birds! We had live music and an amazing silent auction - over 20 different items to bid on. It was great and we had a wonderful turn out! I've added pictures below of the night.
I guess that's about it for now - I'll really try to be better about blogging and thanks for the emails that applied the gentle pressure to post this update!
This guy was too cool for us - he would just stare you down!
