I have some answers

I went in for x-rays today to see if they could find out what is causing all of this pain. Here is what they found.

I have spondylolisthesis. http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00053 You can read about it here. Basically I broke a bone on my L5 and my hip has slipped forward. With all the stuff I've been doing lately, packing boxes, yard work, kick boxing class etc..., I have irritated the area and now it's inflamed. I started therapy today and I will go again tomorrow morning. Starting next week I will be going 3 days a week for about 2 weeks and then we will take another set of X-rays. It's interesting that I can't recall anything that would have caused this and my doctor said that it appears that this happened awhile ago - maybe years ago!

Anyway, I'm happy that I know what is causing the pain but I don't like the results. It's going to be a slow journey to feeling better and if my body doesn't respond then I am looking at surgery - again. I work with a woman at HP that had the exact same thing happen and she went through 6 months of adjustments and physical therapy and still ended up having spinal fusion. I pray my body will respond well and I can get back to my life. I am way too busy for this stuff!

Enough Already!!!

Okay, so I went to work today which I think was a big mistake. I struggled throughout the day and I think I made my back worse. I don't think the anti-inflammatory pills are working so I called my doctor and she put me on Darvocet. The pain is getting better but it's coming at a price. I am in a fog and feel dizzy.

I'm sorry to say but I am blogged out, You Tubed out and I have watched all my DVR shows. I am now resulting to watching reruns of Friends and Lifetime for Woman - which I have to say is pretty depressing. Why can't there be happy shows on Lifetime for Woman? Maybe I'm just watching it on the wrong day.

Anyway, all I have to say is Enough Already!! Hello, Lower back are you listening to me? I have had it - get better NOW!

Sciatic Nerve - UGH!

The term sciatica describes the symptoms of leg pain and possibly tingling, numbness or weakness that travels from the low back through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of the leg. The vast majority of people who experience sciatica get better with time (usually a few weeks or months) and find pain relief with non-surgical sciatica treatment.

Okay did that just say a few weeks or months? You've got to be kidding me! I have been in bed for 2 days unable to move much and I'm going crazy! I've had this problem before but it came during the same time I had to have back surgery for a different reason so the pain all got lumped together and I was already on meds so I don't remember it being like this.

Anyway, so needless to say I've had a lot of time on my hands and I was trying to pull a Pollyanna for this situation. So I'm looking at the good and finding something to be glad about while I lay here. So here is goes.

I'm glad that there are wonderful Anti-inflammatory and pain pills that help take the pain away.

I'm glad they invented ThermaCare Heat Wraps that you wrap around your body and these little discs heat up like magic to heat the area and relax the muscles. What's really cool is that they stay hot for like 9 hours - it truly is amazing.

I'm glad for cell phones. Mike's not been working much so he has been at home but he's mostly down stairs. So if I really need something I just have to call him. It's like a little bell. :)

I'm glad for my lap top. I can lay here - prop it up and catch up on my blog reading, check the weather in every state and watch video's on You Tube. These are things I normally don't have a lot of time for so it's been great to just play around.

I'm glad for DVR - I normally record shows I want to watch when the kids are asleep- Like House or Grey's Anatomy - well now I've caught up on all of those shows too.

In the mean time while I've been doing all of this stuff the laundry has been put on the back burner, the boxes I have to pack have gone unpacked and I am about to go crazy. But hey at least I found things to "be glad about" as Pollyanna would say. :)
