Introducing Tito - - The Italian Giant...

For the last year the girls have been wanting a dog. We would put them off with one excuse or another but then we found ourselves short on excuses. Given that we all have allergies we knew we needed a dog with short hair. The fact that Mike will be heading off to Border Patrol soon I knew I didn't want to deal with a big dog, two kids and the house without his help so that left us with trying to decide on a small dog. Neither of us have ever had a small dog and our favorite breed is a lab which was out of the question this time around.

We did some research and the only dog I could get Mike to agree on was an Italian Greyhound. Their max weight is about 10 pounds, the hardly shed at all and they are the one dog that people with allergies can be around without a lot of problems. So with a quick search online Mike found someone on Craigslist selling purebreds but only asking for partial vet fees since she is a vet. So for very little we found ourselves with a little Italian Greyhound puppy for the fraction of what they normally go for. How did we get so lucky?

So far he hasn't even had any accidents - mostly b/c we watch him like a hawk and take him outside every hour or so - but still -this has been great. (Knock on wood) The girls baby him like no other and he is getting all the cuddles he could ever want. He sleeps a lot - and doesn't have the normal puppy energy I am used to so again it is great!

We picked the name Tito because in Italian it means 'giant' and he is anything but a giant. If you have a small dog you need to have a sense of humor about it. :)

Can you see him in here? He falls asleep as soon as he gets in the car...

I need to get a picture of him awake but he is always sleeping!!!
