So for any of you who have been watching my Facebook status you have seen that I am on a bridges kick. I had started to realize that people throw certain bridge terms around all the time and I wanted to explore that. What I hear most often is - "I built a bridge and got over it" or "don't burn that bridge" or my favorite "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it".

I have to wonder what is really happening when people use these terms - Do you take them at face value or do they go deeper. For instance, the person who says "I built a bridge and got over it". Is that really the best thing? Isn't that just leaving the mess under the bridge still there waiting to flood back up? After living in Texas and going through hurricanes and dozens of very large storms where we ended up with 11 inches of water in less then 24 hours, I know all too well what happens to a lot of bridges. They get covered in the water (mess), they disappear and some times they collapse. So where does that leave that person? The picture above is a picture of our street in Texas - every drive way was a bridge over a 4 foot tall culvert used for storms like this. As you can see our street was totally flooded and some neighbors had water damage in their homes b/c the drainage ditch was big enough for the mess. (Deep eh?)

The "don't burn that bridge" I use mostly in my professional life. There are a lot of people and companies you don't want to "burn a bridge" with. But you can use it on a deeper level with friends and family. Can those bridges ever be repaired if you burn them. I like to think they can but from what I have learned that it is very difficult.

This brings me to my last and all time favorite - "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it." This is so much easier to say then to do. The last couple of days I feel like I
had all sorts of bridges I could cross, so many different directions to go and now all the bridges are gone. So where does that leave me? Am I on an island? Did I wait too long to cross a bridge b/c I didn't know which way to go? Have I crossed the wrong bridge and now they are gone and I can't get back?
All I know is that I don't have a bridge to cross right now. I am hopeful because I can see some being built and I am so anxious for them to be done. I'm at a "wait and see" point in so many ways. But I promise I will try to be patient and just support the builders of my bridge and as soon as I can I will cross it. The bridge may not be glamorous but I will be brave and cross the bridge that was built for me and not look back.
